Hot and Dry Events in the Adige Basin

The droughts of 2015, 2017, and 2022 had severe impacts across Europe, compounding with other hazards like heatwaves, wildfires, and salt intrusion in various regions. In North-East Italy, sectors such as water management, agriculture, and forestry were significantly affected, from the Alps to the Adriatic coast. For example, below-average snowfall in the Alps, combined with low rainfall and high temperatures in spring and summer, contributed to drought impacts along the Adige River, stretching from the mountains to the coast.
